...and their answers!
Is it OK to come on my own?
The majority of people do come on their own, and some come with a friend or spouse. Because guests and staff sit at shared tables for meals, it offers the opportunity to make contact with others but doesn’t take away the option of space for those who want it, as we always have a table laid for those who want quiet.
What do I need to bring with me?
The usual things you would take on holiday; towels are provided and a hairdryer is available to borrow. We have a library of various books and creative arts materials are freely available.
Do you take Credit/Debit Cards?
Yes, we take all major credit/debit cards except American Express.
Can I reach you by public transport?
National Express coaches will bring you to Westbourne which is a 10 minute walk away. Branksome Station is about half an hour’s walk away. From Bournemouth station you can take a taxi, or buses from the bus station opposite go to Westbourne.
What do people do all day?
It depends on what you want to get out of your stay. If your life is very busy or you are feeling overwhelmed with difficulties, the key ‘activity’ is to stop 'doing'! There are morning and evening prayers and, apart from meal times, you can be on your own to be quiet, spend time by the sea, walk or explore the local area.
Do you have single rooms?
Yes. There is no supplement and we do not charge for single occupancy in a double room.
What denomination are you?
Firmly based in Christian faith, guests of all denominations (and none) come to stay here and most find worship in the chapel helpful and engaging. Green Pastures was established as the first Free Church centre of its kind 52 years ago before ‘ecumenical’ ministry was popular.
Is there an extra charge for counselling/spiritual direction?
Yes, while we are in the present interregnum we are using outside expert help and this involves a charge from £20 per session and needs to be booked in advance.
What do I do if I want to be quiet to read/write/think/pray but don’t want to sit in my bedroom?
We have a quiet sitting room set aside for people who do not want to engage in conversation with other guests. The chapel is also available for meditation and prayer.
Is it OK to talk to a member of staff about my struggles?
It is advisable to talk to our resident Counsellor or the Centre Manager who will arrange for you to talk to someone and also receive prayer if requested.
Do you need to be a Christian to come to Green Pastures?
We welcome people with a Christian faith or no faith. No pressure will be placed on you to accept our beliefs.
I’ve got a friend who I think would benefit from staying at Green Pastures. How do I know if you can help them?
Your friend should look at the web site or ring us and we can discuss their needs with them.
When can I arrive?
We ask you to arrive at 3.00 pm. If you need to arrive before that time you may leave your luggage but your room may not be ready. The departure time is 10.00am.
